On the 13th March the GEOHealth team commences the data collection exercise at Agbogbloshie. The first step involved the recruitment of Agbogbloshie e-waste workers to participate in the study. About 100 participants are succesfully recruited during the 5 days that the GeoHealth team spends at Agbogbloshie. This is the first step of a year long data collection process. Participants meeting the eligibility requirements are taken through a series of tests (e.g., ECG, spirometry) and biological (urine and blood) samples are taken. Research team engaging participantsHaving successfully completed the required tests, participants are fitted with the custom designed (backpack) personal air sampling monitors. The Figure below shows a participant putting on the backpack which will be worn for a period of 6 hours. Participants are informed that they should go about their daily activities/routine while carrying the personal air sampling monitors. On the 20th and 21st March 2017, the GeoHealth team undertakes its control study at the Madina Zongo junction. Participants were informed about the study through announcements at the local mosque. During the two day exercise 51 eligible participants were recruited and taken through the data collection process. The participants were asked to carry personal air monitors for 6 hours like that done with the Agbogbloshie e-waste workers.
